Rodrigo Duterte What On the President's Orders Is About
The documentary is set in the Philippines. Its subject is the campaign Rodrigo Duterte waged against drugs. That campaign went on with a great many deaths. The film looks closely at both sides. On one side is the Manila police. On the other is an ordinary family from a poor neighbourhood. The camera moves back and forth between them. The account proceeds at street level. The cutting recalls a thriller. According to the film, crime, drugs and politics are bound up in one another. The police had been publicly ordered to stop extrajudicial killings. But the film says the deaths carried on. The work proceeds by the methods of journalism. Olivier Sarbil and James Jones made the seventy minute documentary. The Philippine production was finished in 2019.
