What Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos Is About
The documentary is about the attempt to establish football in America in the seventies and about the one real success of that attempt, a New York club. The club was the idea of people who came from the music and entertainment business; it made a hard start in 1971, but everything changed in 1975 when the best known footballer in the world joined on a large contract. The team became the favourite of the city overnight and other famous players followed. As the eighties came the interest fell away and the club closed in 1985. Franz Beckenbauer speaks in the ninety seven minute documentary by Paul Crowder and John Dower, completed in 2006.
