What One Day Is About
Anna is a language teacher of forty with three children, and the film follows one day of her life, or a little more than one, without cutting any of it away. As the hours between the flat, the job and the children pile up, the thing actually wrong underneath them slowly becomes visible. Zsófia Szilágyi keeps the camera in hand and fills the soundtrack with crying, washing machines and car alarms, so that exhaustion is not something watched from outside but something entered. Her first feature premiered in Critics’ Week at Cannes in 2018 and won the FIPRESCI prize there, and was nominated the same year for the European discovery award.
