What Oriented Is About
Jake Witzenfeld's documentary follows three young gay Palestinian men living in Tel Aviv over fifteen months. Khader comes from a well known family and lives with his Jewish boyfriend; Fadi is a Palestinian nationalist who has to think his own position through again when a relationship with an Israeli begins; Naeem is working out how to tell his family about his sexuality. Together the three set up a group called Qambuta and look for a non-violent, cultural route toward both sexual and national equality. The documentary advances no thesis and settles no argument, making room instead for three people to speak in their own sentences and with their own contradictions. The Gaza war of 2014 enters the narrative as well.
