What Our 30-Minute Sessions Is About
Sota, a university student, picks up a cassette left behind by Aki, a musician who died a year ago. When the tape plays, Aki takes over Sota's body for exactly thirty minutes. Sharing one body, the two of them set about getting a band that broke up back together and putting a smile back on the face of Aki's girlfriend, Kana. Kentaro Hagiwara's 2020 film ties its fantastical device to a story about grief: the time left is rationed, thirty minutes at a go, and thirty minutes is not enough for both making music and saying goodbye. Mackenyu and Takumi Kitamura play it. The music is not decoration here, it is the only place the two of them can meet.
