Rangga & Cinta

Jakarta, 2001. Cinta is the most popular girl in school, with a tight circle of friends and a warm home. Her arrangement wobbles when she loses the school poetry contest to Rangga, a quiet boy who prefers books to people. Indonesian audiences know this story by heart: Rudi Soedjarwo's Ada Apa dengan Cinta? (2002) lodged itself in a generation's memory. Riri Riza retells it as a musical. The idea began during the pandemic, first imagined as a series. Nicholas Saputra, the original Rangga, produces here, his first time in that role. Leads El Putra Sarira and Leya Princy are both making their feature debuts. It premiered at the 30th Busan International Film Festival on 18 September 2025 and opened in Indonesia on 2 October 2025. Who it's for: Viewers open to a familiar romance retold in song, and to high school nostalgia. Who it's not for: Anyone carrying the original as a memory will find the comparison unavoidable, and anyone new to the story may find the plot a fairly standard school romance.
