What Out in the Open Is About
A boy runs away from home with the voices of the men searching for him left behind, and in front of him a burned, endless plain he has to cross. On the way he meets a goatherd and the two of them start walking together. What the summaries do not say is why he ran: not from poverty or over a theft, but from the man who was sexually abusing him. Adapted from Jesus Carrasco's novel, the film is set in the years after Spain's civil war and is about what a man with power can do in a small place. Luis Tosar plays the goatherd.
