What Outbound Is About
Matilda, two years into a prison sentence, is released for twenty four hours to attend her mother’s funeral, with no intention of going back. Within that one day she tries a last time to get help from her family: she goes to her brother, to her former partner and to her son in care. At every door she faces her own past again, and who fell out with whom over what, while the clock keeps running. The film neither clears the woman nor condemns her; it follows minute by minute her search for somewhere to run. Ana Ularu appears in Bogdan George Apetri’s eighty seven minute Romanian film; it was completed in 2010.
