What Pain of Love Is About
A young woman falls in love with her teacher and takes on a weight she is not prepared for. When hurt, expectation and the reaction of those around her pile up, she finds herself in a dark state she cannot get out of, and tries to escape it. The film tells that state not as the result of a love story but as the surfacing of a fragility carried for a long time. The account does not make recovery look easy and lays blame on nobody; it also shows that well meaning intervention from those around a person does not always help. Anne Louise Hassing plays the lead in Nils Malmros’s hundred and twenty minute Danish film, completed in 1992.
