Parajanov

The film tells the life of the director Sergei Parajanov. The account begins with his early years in Ukraine. Then come the years in Georgia and Armenia. All three were part of the Soviet Union at the time. Parajanov makes films unlike anyone else’s. What he does unsettles the authorities. The shooting of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors appears in the film. So does the shooting of The Colour of Pomegranates. Then he is arrested and imprisoned. The years in prison are told as well. Solitude and being forgotten are part of those years. His attachment to beauty never breaks off. Serge Avedikian plays Parajanov, with Yulia Peresild and Karen Badalov also in the cast, in the ninety five minute film that Serge Avedikian and Olena Fetisova made as an Armenian, Georgian, Ukrainian and French coproduction of 2013.
