What Passione Is About
The documentary is about the songs of Naples and the people who sing them. In scenes shot in the streets, on the roofs and at the harbour of the city, it sets old folk songs beside twentieth century compositions and today’s young musicians; the songs take up love, jealousy, emigration and anger at poverty. John Turturro appears in the film as its narrator as well, and shows Naples not as a postcard for tourists but together with its own contradictions. Massimo Ranieri, Peppe Barra and Raiz are among those who sing. The ninety minute Italian production was completed in 2010.
