What Path of Blood Is About
The documentary is built entirely from Al Qaeda’s own home video, drawn from several hundred hours of archive captured by the Saudi security services. Young men training at a camp in the desert sign on to a plan to bring down the Saudi government, set off three car bombs at Western compounds in central Riyadh, and then spend years being hunted by state forces. As the plan falls apart their methods get harder. Jonathan Hacker’s film covers the years from 2003 to 2009 and uses no interviews and almost no commentary, with only sparse narration from Samuel West carrying the thread. It should be watched knowing that the footage includes real killings. It was released on 13 July 2018.
