Pencils vs Pixels

The documentary takes up hand-drawn animation. The account is built on a rise, a fall and a rise again. Those who speak are animators of the nineties and the two thousands. Those years are counted as a second golden age in animation. That generation trained under the people who set out the principles of animation. They carried what they learned further in their own work. Animation reached an unexpected place in that period. Then the computer arrived. The balance of the business changed at that point. The film puts that change at the centre of the account. Among those who speak are Pete Docter and John Musker. Ming-Na Wen and Seth MacFarlane are in the film as well. Bay Dariz and Phil Earnest’s American documentary of 2023 runs seventy two minutes.
