Penguins: Life on the Edge

The documentary is about how a wildlife film was made. That film followed penguins living in Antarctica. This production shows what happened behind the camera. The crew stayed on Ross Island for a year. Twenty cinematographers worked in turn. The shooting covered three separate areas. Temperature and wind caused constant trouble. A snowstorm turned the walk back into a danger. The tents struggled against violent winds. Killer whales came close to the team. Elephant seals became neighbours of the camp. The smell of the penguin colony was a problem of its own. Divers handled the underwater work. A helicopter crew filmed the whole colony from above. A special rig showed scenes at penguin height.
