What Peter Knife Is About
The title comes from Rubén Blades' 1978 salsa song, recorded with Willie Colón for the album Siembra, which fits a whole neighbourhood and one fatal street corner into a few minutes. This Mexican production borrows the name and the character but takes them somewhere else, following a Mexico City hustler wanted by the police and by his rivals alike, played by Andrés García. Blades never gave the film his blessing and answered it with a song of his own, Sorpresas, that continues the story on his terms. A sequel, El Hijo de Pedro Navaja, followed in 1986.
