What Pinocchio Is About
The carpenter Geppetto makes a puppet. He names him Pinocchio. The puppet comes to life at once. He will not do as he is told. He ignores the advice of the Talking Cricket. There is no trouble he does not get into. When he lies his nose grows. He lies to the Fairy with the Turquoise Hair about his gold coins. Near the end of the road a sea monster swallows him. He only gets out of it by becoming a well behaved boy. The film stays faithful to Carlo Collodi’s book. Giuliano Cenci wanted to keep as close as he could to its spirit. Collodi’s grandsons acted as consultants on the production. Giuliano Cenci directed the ninety three minute animation, an Italian production finished in 1972.
