What Plan 75 Is About
Japan in the near future. The ageing of the population has become a political problem and the state has launched a programme: anyone who reaches seventy-five has the right to end their life voluntarily, and is encouraged to. Michi is eighty; she loses her job, is moved out of her housing, and runs out of options. The film follows three people: Michi, a young official who sells the programme, and a Filipino woman working at the facility. Hayakawa tells it in a cold, orderly voice without raising it, and that calm is what frightens.
