What Pleasure Boy Komola Is About
In the Haor region of East Bengal, a landlord hires a young boy along with his father’s music group to entertain him until the annual flood is over. The boy soon understands that something different is expected of him than of the others in the group: the landlord is using him sexually as well. The landlord’s wife cannot bear the situation and plans to get rid of the boy. The film does not present the practice as a tradition; it puts at the centre a child who is plainly being exploited and shows that not one person around him protects him. Humayun Ahmed’s hundred and one minute Bangladeshi film was completed in 2012.
