Police Story 3: Super Cop

The third film in Jackie Chan's Police Story series. Ka-kui, the Hong Kong policeman Chan plays, is sent undercover: infiltrate a drug organisation and reach its leader. The job takes him to mainland China and from there to Malaysia, and he is assigned a Chinese police officer as a partner. That partner, Jessica Yang, played by Michelle Yeoh, is the film's biggest difference. Yeoh is not a figure standing beside Chan here; she has fight scenes of her own and does the dangerous work herself. In one scene she rides a motorcycle onto a moving train, performing it without a double. Chan's own set piece hangs from a helicopter ladder above Kuala Lumpur. Stanley Tong directed this link in the series; Chan had directed the earlier films himself. The outtakes at the end show how the scenes were shot and how often they went wrong, a tradition of Chan's films. One of the strongest entries in the series for anyone who likes Hong Kong action and real stunt work. The plot is simple and the characters have no depth; the film takes all its strength from the sequences.
