Praying for Armageddon

The documentary is about the American evangelical movement. Its focus is the movement’s effect on foreign policy. According to the film, one wing of it is waiting for the end times. That expectation rests on a prophecy. The prophecy has Jesus appearing in Israel. For it to come about, the belief runs, Israel must grow stronger. Large sums are given in support on that basis. The film argues the network reaches into the White House. Tonje Hessen Schei films preachers and politicians directly. The camera goes into prayer meetings and around Congress. Frank Schaeffer, Ralph Drollinger and Lee Fang speak in it, and members of Congress appear as well. The account also takes up the question in the context of Israel and Palestine. The ninety seven minute documentary is a Norwegian led coproduction Tonje Hessen Schei finished in 2023.
