Private Hell 36

A drugstore robbery in Los Angeles turns up one of the marked notes from a bank job in New York a year earlier. Detectives Cal Bruner and Jack Farnham follow the trail to a nightclub, where the singer Lilli has taken one of the same notes. With her help they find the robber and the money surfaces. Then Cal stops. He works out that nobody is going to count this, and he takes some of it. Jack objects and then says nothing. That is where the real story starts. Don Siegel directs; eighty-one minutes, with Ida Lupino as Lilli, Steve Cochran as Cal and Howard Duff as Jack. Lupino wrote the script with Collier Young, and the two of them produced it as well. She was one of the few women directing and producing in Hollywood in those years.
