What Prodigal Sons Is About
The filmmaker Kimberly Reed goes home for her high school reunion, ready to introduce herself to the town again as a transgender woman and hoping to make peace with Marc, the adopted brother she has been estranged from for years. Then something nobody could have planned for complicates it: Marc turns out to be the grandson of Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth. Marc, who was permanently injured in a car accident, pushes the family into questions about identity, orientation, severe trauma and love. The eighty six minute documentary travels from class reunions in Montana to family reunions in Croatia. It won the FIPRESCI prize at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival and best documentary at Newfest in New York and at the Copenhagen festival.
