Question Mark

The film is set in Indonesia. Three families are at the centre of it. The families come from different faiths. One is Muslim, one Catholic, one Buddhist. Their lives cross in the same neighbourhood. Being neighbours is easy sometimes and not at other times. The difference in belief works its way into daily business. The story moves along those crossings. Small disagreements grow. Some of them turn violent. What the film argues for is pluralism. The director’s own background plays a part in that. Hanung Bramantyo grew up in a family of Chinese and Javanese descent. The film drew opposition once it was out. One group demanded it not be shown. A television channel dropped a planned broadcast. Agus Kuncoro and Revalina S. Temat appear in the hundred and two minute film, an Indonesian production Hanung Bramantyo finished in 2011.
