Radiograph of a Family

The director opens by saying that her mother married a photograph of her father. The sentence is not a metaphor. Tayi was married to a portrait of Hossein in Tehran. The groom was in Switzerland at the time, studying radiology. He could not return home for the wedding. That scene stands for the whole marriage. Hossein is secular and progressive. Tayi is devout and attached to tradition. The two live in separate worlds inside one house. Their daughter grows up in that house. Khosrovani tells the story out of her own family. The telling takes the form of a personal account. The difference in belief opens an abyss between her parents. That gap does not close over the years. Firouzeh Khosrovani directed the eighty two minute documentary. It is an Iranian, Norwegian and Swiss production finished in 2020.
