What Raid on Entebbe Is About

On 27 June 1976 an Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris is hijacked and brought down at Entebbe airport in Uganda. The hijackers belong to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine; they release some of the passengers and hold ninety-four Jewish passengers and the twelve-strong crew. The Israeli government refuses to negotiate. On the night of 4 July fewer than a hundred commandos fly the length of Africa and carry out the raid. Irvin Kershner's television film was made immediately after the events. Peter Finch plays Prime Minister Rabin, in what turned out to be his last role; he died five days after the film aired. Charles Bronson, Yaphet Kotto and Martin Balsam are also in the cast.
