Rammstein in Amerika

Hannes Rossacher's 2015 documentary is about the German band Rammstein's relationship with America. At its centre is the concert they played at Madison Square Garden in New York after a ten-year absence, to a full house, an unusual result for a band singing in German. The film combines concert footage with previously unreleased material from the band's own archive and interviews recorded across different periods. The members talk about growing up in East Germany, how the stage show is built, and drawing both admiration and hostility in America. The constant misreading of their visual design and their answer to it is part of the account. The concert sections were recorded to a high standard. Who it's for: Rammstein listeners and viewers who like concert documentaries. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a critical assessment of the band; the film follows their own account.
