What Rascals on the Road Is About
Four boys, Eugen, Wrigley, Bäschteli and Eduard, set off around Switzerland after the treasure of Lake Titicaca that Fritzli Bühler is supposed to have found. The mischief they get up to on the way keeps the film inside the shape of a classic children’s adventure. Michael Steiner adapted it from the book Klaus Schädelin had written fifty years earlier, drawing on his own experience and on stories he had heard from children. It was made on one of the largest budgets Swiss cinema had seen, reached more than five hundred thousand viewers to become one of the country’s most watched films, and won the Swiss Film Award.
