Ready or Not: Here I Come

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett came back from promoting Abigail wanting to write an original sister story for Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton. When producer Tripp Vinson made a last attempt to pull them onto the sequel, they offered that idea instead, and everyone took it. The sibling line comes from another project, not the series. Ten days before the shoot Weaving hurt her back reaching for a pillow and could not walk. She recovered days before filming, but did far less of the dangerous work herself than usual. Toronto meant a low budget, so the cast came largely from local actors. David Cronenberg as Chester Danforth was co-casting director Jason Knight’s suggestion, treated as a long shot; the yes came within two days. Music changed hands too: Brian Tyler, who scored the 2019 film, supplied the themes and produced the score; Sven Faulconer wrote it. It took 43 million dollars worldwide against a 14 million budget, with an opening weekend below projections. A good fit if you want an opening that resumes at the minute the first film stopped, carrying Grace from her victory cigarette to a hospital bed and an out of date emergency contact. Not for anyone who has not seen the first film; the rules of the game and the debts between characters continue from there.
