What Recovery Boys Is About
The documentary follows four men taking part in a farming based rehabilitation programme in a region badly damaged by drugs. As they try to rebuild their lives after addiction, to repair the relationships they broke and to face their families again, a solid friendship forms among them, while what happens outside once the programme ends is a separate matter. Elaine McMillion Sheldon’s ninety minute American production tells recovery not as a straight line but together with the relapses. It was completed in 2018 and treats addiction as a regional problem rather than a story of personal weakness.
