What Red Meadows Is About
The Danish resistance fighter Michael Lans remembers his last mission and his comrades as he waits to be executed in a German prison. The mission was to blow up a weapons factory; that the group was caught means somebody among them talked, and in his cell he tries to work out who. The film takes its tension not from the raid but from that suspicion. It was shot only months after the occupation ended, while the memory was still fresh, and it was an open tribute to the resistance. Poul Reichhardt and Lisbeth Movin appear in the eighty five minute Danish film by Bodil Ipsen and Lau Lauritzen Jr.; the production was completed in 1945 and was among the films honoured at the first Cannes festival.
