Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs

This film sank on its marketing before it opened. The poster carried the line: what if Snow White was no longer beautiful, and the seven dwarfs not so short. The image placed a heavy Snow White beside a slimmed-down version of herself. The reaction was immediate. The plus-size model and body-positivity activist Tess Holliday posted the artwork on Twitter and tagged Chloë Grace Moretz, who voices Snow White. Moretz wrote that she had reviewed the marketing and was as appalled and angry as everyone else, that it had not been approved by her or her team, and that she had lent her voice to a beautiful script she hoped people would see in full. Producer Sujin Hwang apologised on behalf of Locus and terminated the campaign. The film itself is not as bad as the marketing suggested. Directed by Sung-ho Hong and produced by Locus Corporation in South Korea, it is a computer-animated parody of the Snow White story. Who it is for: family audiences after a fairy-tale parody, and anyone curious about the Korean animation industry. Who it is not for: viewers wanting an original narrative. This is a very late example of the post-Shrek fairy-tale parody template and never leaves it.
