Regular Lovers

Paris in 1968 and 1969. François is twenty, a poet, dodging his military service. He goes to the barricades but will not throw a Molotov cocktail at the police. He stays with his friend Antoine, who has an inheritance and a flat, and the two of them smoke opium and talk about revolution. Then he meets Lilie, a sculptor who works in a foundry to keep herself. They fall in love. A year goes by, and a kind of emptiness takes the place the revolt had held. Philippe Garrel's film runs over three hours and is in black and white. Louis Garrel, the director's son, plays François. It tells the revolution not as an event but through the silence that was left afterwards.
