What Residente Is About
After taking a DNA test, René Pérez finds the trail of his own ancestry on a map running from Siberia to the Caucasus and from China to West Africa, and he sets off to travel the world following it. In each place he works with local musicians and records his new album, exchanging ideas by singing notes, and what comes out of it is both a record and a journey. The artist who performs as Residente and founded Calle 13 builds this first solo project on his own family tree and turns the music into a question about identity. The ninety minute production had its world premiere in the music section of South by Southwest in 2017, and Lin-Manuel Miranda also appears in it.
