What Return to Homs Is About
Talal Derki spent three years in Homs following two young men. Basset is nineteen, a goalkeeper for the national team, who becomes first a leader of demonstrations, then the singing voice of the uprising, and finally an armed fighter. His friend Ossama, twenty four, is a well known citizen journalist and a sardonic pacifist whose positions end up being changed for him rather than by him. The film records not so much a city as what happens to a generation inside one. It took the documentary grand jury prize at Sundance in 2014.
