Rhythm is it!

The documentary is about a project of the Berlin Philharmonic. It was the orchestra’s first large educational undertaking. Sir Simon Rattle was at the head of it. The idea was to get out of the concert hall. Two hundred and fifty young people were brought together from across the city. Most of them had never met classical music before. Royston Maldoom took charge of the choreography. The preparation was long and hard. It was also exhilarating. The film goes through the stages of it in order. In the end the young dancers went on stage. What they danced to was Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, and the film shows the orchestra’s own rehearsals as well. Thomas Grube and Enrique Sánchez Lansch made the hundred minute documentary, a German production finished in 2004.
