Risky Business

Imam Darto's 2024 Indonesian film follows three brothers who cannot pay their father's hospital bills. They settle on burglary, and the house they enter turns out to belong to the head of a crime organisation. The humour comes from incompetence. None of them knows the trade and each step produces a new problem; the narrative breaks its tension in favour of comedy and shows the violence in exaggerated form. Gading Marten leads. The narrative keeps the question of medical costs in the background and does not enter it directly. The tone is light and the close brings family ties forward. Who it's for: those who like Indonesian crime comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting the health system treated seriously; the film uses it only as a base for its plot.
