What Road to Boston Is About
The Boston Marathon of 1947 was the first international marathon held after the Second World War, and the Korean runners entered it under their own flag for the first time since the country’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, which had lasted from 1910 to 1945. Suh Yun-bok won that race at twenty four in two hours twenty five minutes and thirty nine seconds, a world record at the time, and became the first Asian champion of the event. The man who trained him was Sohn Kee-chung, who had won the marathon gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and covered the Japanese flag on his shirt at the ceremony. Written and directed by Kang Je-kyu, the film opened on 27 September 2023. Ha Jung-woo plays Sohn and Yim Si-wan plays Suh.
