What Salut d'Amour Is About
Sung-chil is in his seventies, lives alone, is difficult, and works part time at the neighbourhood supermarket. The man who owns the shop is also running the local redevelopment scheme, and Sung-chil is the one signature he cannot get, because Sung-chil does not want anything in his life to change. Then he meets Geum-nim, who runs the flower shop next door. He has no idea how to court anyone, so the whole neighbourhood joins in, and Geum-nim's daughter is not pleased about any of it. Kang Je-kyu's 2015 film is a remake of the 2008 American picture Lovely, Still. It starts as comedy, and the ending, which will not be given away here, is where its whole weight sits.
