Rocky Mountain Express

The documentary tells the history of Canada’s first transcontinental railway. What goes with the account is a steam train journey through the Canadian Rockies. The locomotive used was built in 1930 and later restored. The filming was spread over five years. Most of the footage was taken from a helicopter on a mount built to hold the camera steady. The film was shot for the giant screen, in the largest film format there is. The difficulty of the ground the railway crosses is the real subject. History and the present journey run into each other along the same line. The forty six minutes are given to a single journey. There is one name in the cast: Michael Hanrahan. Stephen Low’s Canadian documentary was completed in 2011.
