Saekano the Movie: Finale

A small amateur game studio breaks up after announcing its first title: two of its members leave to work on a big-budget game with a well-known producer. Tomoya and Megumi, left behind, put together a new team and try to finish their own game. The film closes the two questions the series has carried for years: which game will get made, and where the relationship between Tomoya and Megumi will end up. The story comes from Fumiaki Maruto's light novel series and was told first as manga and then as two seasons of anime; this film is the close of that account. Anyone who has not seen the series will find the characters' histories entirely opaque. What makes it interesting is that its actual subject is game production: budgets, deadlines, people leaving the team, and whether a piece of work can be finished at all. The romance arrives where those following the series have long expected it to.
