Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster

In northern India a raja is a man who still has the title and not much of the power. His wife Chhoti Rani is alone and unhappy in the palace; her husband has a mistress. The raja decides to stand for election, and his rival hires a gunman named Babalu to get rid of him. Babalu takes a job at the palace as a driver. The longer he stays inside, the more both his assignment and his intentions start to change. Tigmanshu Dhulia's film stands outside Bollywood's glossy productions: a small budget, provincial settings and a hard tone. The unravelling of the feudal order and the way politics is entangled with crime make the ground of the story. Jimmy Shergill plays the raja, Mahie Gill his wife and Randeep Hooda the gunman. The film found an unexpected audience and grew into a series with sequels.
