Salvador Dalí What Salvador Dalí: In Search of Immortality Is About
The documentary opens in 1929, the year Dalí joined the surrealist group and met Gala, and runs from there to his death in 1989, following the work and the partnership together. It does not leave Gala at the level of a muse; she appears as someone inside the working life of the painter. David Pujol proceeds through archive footage, photographs and documents, and talks to people who knew the two of them closely. The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí produced it, and it was released to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of the painter’s death. Among the things it examines is how deliberately Dalí built his own persona as a work in its own right.
