Same Same But Different

Ben has just finished university in Germany and is travelling through South East Asia with a friend. In Phnom Penh he meets Sreykeo, who works in a bar. Something neither of them expected starts between them. Back in Germany, Ben finds out that Sreykeo is ill and takes on the responsibility of getting her treated. This is a relationship running between two countries, two levels of income and two lives, and nobody's motives in it are entirely clean. Detlev Buck's film is based on Benjamin Prüfer's book about his own story, with David Kross as Ben and Apinya Sakuljaroensuk as Sreykeo. It neither looks away from the inequality between tourist and local nor belittles what is between them.
