Sammohanam

Mohana Krishna Indraganti's 2018 Telugu film follows Vijay, a cartoonist with no liking for cinema. When a shoot takes place at his house he meets the actress Sameera and has to come closer to the world he rejected. The interest is in the everyday state of being famous. Sameera is watched constantly and every move of hers is commented on; the narrative presents this not as complaint but as an obstacle standing permanently between two people. Sudheer Babu and Aditi Rao Hydari lead. The tone is calm, the humour measured and the narrative manufactures no melodrama. Indraganti is known for films about the film world and shows the industry here from inside. Who it's for: those who like quiet Telugu romantic drama. Who it's not for: viewers expecting dense plotting; the film proceeds almost entirely through the relationship.
