Say Hey, Willie Mays!

Willie Mays played baseball. His years on the field stretch across five decades. The documentary covers the field and everything off it. Mays played in New York. Then the team moved to San Francisco. A large following grew in both cities. Race weighed heavily on America in those years. Mays became one of the men who opened the way for Black athletes. That carried a burden separate from anything he did on the field. The documentary takes up that burden as well. Mays sits in front of the camera himself. Barry Bonds speaks too. Reggie Jackson, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal are in the film. So is his son Michael Mays. The ninety eight minute film is an American production Nelson George finished in 2022.
