Gemma grows up in a town in Scotland. The town is called Motherwell. For many years it stood on the steel industry. After the works closed there was less and less employment. Not much was left for young people. Gemma grows up in that setting. She becomes a mother while she is still very young. Her life shifts into another order all at once. She does not fit the expectations around her, though. Fights and trouble keep finding her. People close to her get her into difficulty too. The documentary follows her over years. Over that time you also see her grow up. The eighty seven minute documentary carries the signatures of Ellinor Hallin and Ellen Fiske, a Swedish and British co-production finished in 2019.
