Ashley Esqueda N Nissa M Ludwig A Andrew Monkelban N Nick Yee What Second Skin Is About
The documentary follows people who live inside massively multiplayer online games. In worlds such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest and Second Life there are couples who fell in love without ever meeting, disabled players who have built a new life in the game, people who cannot stop playing, workers in China who earn money playing on other people’s behalf, and the leaders of large guilds. The camera moves between the life these people have in front of the screen and the life they are left with when they get up from it, and shows that the two are not easily separated. Juan Carlos Piñeiro Escoriaza’s ninety four minute American documentary was shown at South by Southwest in 2008 and follows the stories of seven people.
