Self Portrait

Lene Marie Fossen was a photographer. She met anorexia very early in her life. She stopped eating at the age of ten. The illness stayed with her for the next twenty years. She learned photography in those years. She made portraits of herself. She also photographed Syrian refugee children in Greece. The documentary is telling two things at once. One is the portrait of an artist. The other is the portrait of a deadly disease. The film does not try to separate them. Her family and the people around her speak. A question comes out of it. What kind of care does someone living with severe anorexia actually need? Susanne Sundfør wrote the music. Lene Marie Fossen died in 2019. Torill Fossen and Morten Krogvold appear in the eighty minute documentary, a Norwegian production Margreth Olin, Espen Wallin and Katja Høgset finished in 2020.
