Seven Songs from the Tundra

The film is set on the tundra of northern Russia. The Nenets people live in that region. They make their living with herds of reindeer. The account is made of seven separate stories. Each story belongs to a different period. Soviet power arrives in the region. The new order brings its own rules. Children are sent to boarding schools. Language and custom come under pressure. The nomadic life is broken up piece by piece. The people’s own way of telling is kept in the film. Those who appear are people of the region. The account joins fiction and documentary. Songs tie the stories to one another. Anatoli Hudi and Igor Hudi appear in the ninety minute film, a Finnish production two directors finished in 2000.
