Two men in Oslo work for a chimney sweeping company. One tells his wife about a dream in which a client looked at him as if he were a woman. The other decides to tell his wife about an unexpected encounter with a man while at work. The film consists of the conversations that follow those two confessions. The film is not interested in sex. It is interested in the ability to speak: the characters argue not about what happened but about how to describe it, and the real crisis arrives in the word rather than the act. The wives respond not with anger but with continuous analysis. The form is a talking film: flats, rooftops, cars and very long dialogue scenes. The camera barely intervenes and holds still while people speak. Dag Johan Haugerud wrote and directed. The film is part of his Oslo trilogy, conceived together with Dreams and Love, and the three were shown within the same year. Sex screened in the Panorama section of the Berlin festival in 2024. Jan Gunnar Røise and Thorbjørn Harr play the two men. Who it is for: viewers who like dialogue-driven Scandinavian cinema. Who it is not for: anyone expecting movement. The film is almost entirely conversation, the pace is very low and some scenes are deliberately extended.
